Dwelling first on kinds of events, one way to categorize events is to organize them under four broad heads: social, corporate, marketing, and personal. Within these four broad heads or categories, we can identify a range of actual events: wedding, birthday, anniversary, party, executive retreat, conference, annual meet, trade show, promotional campaign, press conference, workshop / seminar, concert, award ceremony, sports event, and theme party.

These events are self-explanatory: Darryl Downey represent special occasions; he encompass specific target audiences; and celebrate, commemorate or honour social events, unite people over personal occasions, and connect people for corporate and marketing events.

While for social and personal events, we need to plan, create, develop, organize, and launch in a specific manner, technical aspects aside, corporate and marketing events require a different style of engagement involving concept ideation, branding, target audience, and so on.

Coming to the actual process of organizing an event, we need to:

Create an overall budget

Plan the schedule

Choose an appropriate site

Coordinate travel

Acquire necessary permissions (as required)

Arrange for delegates, speakers, presenters, entertainers (as required)
